Larry Wall in Athens!

Our new friends at Altec not only managed to contact and invite Larry to come to Athens, but also did some magic that made him actually come!
We had a very interesting session where Larry presented his 'Perl originates from all sciences' show, followed by an overview of the design for Perl 6. Great stuff (what I understood from it), and of course we have a photo (provided by Altec).

Still alive...

A few months later and the number of members has tripled! Yes we are with three now :-) Alexander Karelas and Vincent Kargatis joined the team. We've had two 'meetings' in the meantime, so we're getting sort of started.

We were approached by Simon Cozens in January for giving a talk to us, but there was only one of us in Athens, so we missed that opportunity :-(
Hopefully he'll be back in Athens soon, being a Greek language and culture fan.

We have plans for a Perl job ads page on this site, so if you are looking for a job or if you are looking for Perl programmers, please let me know: mark@athens.pm.org

What else? Ah yes: Soon you'll be able to read this page in Greek as well!

Welcome

Welcome to the Athens Perl Mongers Group. Well, group is a big word, since I'm the one and only Athens.pm member for now...
If you program/hack in Perl or are interested in learning it and live in Athens Greece, join me and soon we can start to organise a meeting or just go for a coffee or beer.
The idea is to come together every now and then and (informally) chat a bit with other Perl freaks. I think it's a great opportunity to meet new people with at least one similar interest. Good for your network, and just fun anyway.

If you have no idea what a Perl mongers group is, have a look here: What is Perl Mongers?

Does this web site look a bit familiar to you? Yes I know, I was 'a bit' inspired by the design of freshmeat. If you have an idea for something more authentic/original be my guest. I also could use some help to translate things into Greek...

I hope to hear from you soon, please drop me an e-mail (mark@athens.pm.org) or subscribe to the mailing list.
